Mat Nightingale and Terry Young - Mat & Ter (Matter Designs) met in 2015 when their daughters became friends while attending middle school in Nova Scotia’s South Shore. Mat and Terry began an easy friendship with both men sharing a keen interest in hand-made craftsmanship, and all things Nova Scotia. Terry, a lifelong trades professional and currently a full-time Construction site Manager, enjoys spending time woodworking and creating unique items in his garage. Mat, originally from Southampton, England is a Laboratory Manager at Dalhousie University and can often be found tinkering in his basement working on 3D printing projects and digital design or watching his favourite soccer team Manchester United.

In 2022, Terry’s woodworking and Mat’s digital design skills were combined and Matter Designs Canada was created to provide unique products that last a lifetime and seal precious memories. All products are customizable, handmade, and created together by Mat and Terry. We offer various types of both hardwood and softwood. Terry enjoys creating new ways to make signs and repurposing materials to create new and one-of-a-kind items. Mat takes great pride in liaising with customers to help them create a design to match their imagination.
